Revealing your Heart

This chapter takes another look at feelings and emotions, but this time from the perspective of the heart.

The freedom of the heart

If you look closely at some of the paintings from many of the world’s traditions, you will likely find a depiction of the heart pictured with a light or a flame. Have you ever wondered why the flame is there and why it appears in the heart?

In our modern culture, the depiction of that same flame or light has moved from being in the heart to being in the mind or in our head. It is the image of the light bulb. The quality of inspiration that we sometimes coin with the idea of a light bulb is the freedom of thinking ‘out of the box.’ It is about being free of the box that our own mind creates out of fear, judgment or reaction.

We often associate preparing ourselves for the moment of inspiration by surrendering our logic and allowing the answer to come from someplace else. Surprisingly, that freedom does not actually come from the mind. In fact, it is the freedom of being bathed in the light of the heart .  .   .
